A dying rose
Withering in the dark
A love overcome by fear
Breaking this sad heart

A dying rose
Wilting all alone
A love once alive and strong
But never was it known

A dying rose
Fading in the gloom
A love ruled by reluctance
A stubborness to accept its tomb

A dying rose
Crumbling on the ground
A love that continued to grow
When that one was around

A dying rose
Breaking away from this realm
A love taken by the shadows
A lonely place to dwell

A dying rose... A symbol of a love that could never be... This is the rose for me.

I have an undying fascination with dying/withering/wilted roses. A lot of people like red roses for their symbol of passion. Others enjoy the black roses for their mystery, death, and depth. While ther are still others that prefer yellow, pink, or white... Me? Give me one that's dying, and I will smile.

Why?

Because, like humans, roses die, too. Why give someone something that will die just like them? Why not give them something that they have not yet achieved? Is something of the future no greater than the present? Give death to the living and give life to the dead.

-smiles- I never saw the "dying rose fascination" from that point of view. I appreciate it, it makes me lok at dying roses in a whole different way.
It's a beautiful poem, though sad. It reminds me of The Phantom of the Opera (how surprising...). I always get sad when I think of it, because I was infuriated with the ending. -furrows brows- Why must the Phantom look mean? He's not mean, he just wants someone to love! ....-breathes and counts to ten before she goes on-....

Well, I liked this poem very much KIA; keep it up! And take care ;)
